Sergio Olivero, Working Group 5 Honorary Co-Chair, has been invited by the Agricultural University of Tirana to participate in a workshop on strategies for sustainable development, with a specific focus on the energy transition, to be held on 15–16 February.
The workshop will address Albania’s strategic role as a key hub in the European energy system, both for energy transit and renewable energy production. Discussions will also highlight recent investments in the country’s energy infrastructure, including funding for the upgrading of transmission and distribution networks and the development of a submarine electricity cable linking Albania and Italy.
Key priorities of the workshop include alignment of Albania’s legislative and regulatory framework with European standards, energy system management inspired by the EU Clean Energy Package, participation in European research projects, the creation of a Trans Boundary Energy Community with neighboring EU countries, and training on European procedures for calls and tenders.
Sergio Olivero will contribute on technical aspects of the energy transition, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), energy communities, smart grids, and system flexibility. He will also present the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIP SNET), with a focus on WG5, as an example of a successful European think tank fostering coordinated debate among public and private stakeholders.
