About ETIP SNET Regional Workshops

In 2016 the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for Energy Transition formally launched its activities. As part of its mission of guiding Research, Development and Innovation activities to support Europe’s energy transition, ETIP SNET organises 4 Regional Workshops per year, covering the whole European Union. The regions are divided into:

  • A Western region : Spain, France, Portugal, Ireland and the UK;
  • A Northern region : Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia;
  • A South-Eastern region : Italy, Slovenia, Malta, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece and Cyprus;
  • And a Central region: Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia.

The Regional Workshops are designed to foster enhanced knowledge-sharing on key issues related to digitisation of the electricity system, energy storage, sector interfaces and customer participation. The Workshops will aim at:

  1. Presenting national and regional RD&I projects of significant added value addressing energy system integration issues, in line with the thematic priorities of the ETIP SNET Working Groups ;
  2. Identifying unsolved RD&I topics and monitoring the implementation of RD&I activities at national and regional levels in Europe;
  3. Ensuring consistency between national and European views;
  4. Stimulating knowledge-sharing between stakeholders and among Member States and associated countries, to foster the efficient implementation of RD&I projects all over Europe.

The 2-day workshops will also include:

  • A presentation of the ETIP SNET organization and activities by ETIP SNET representatives;
  • A presentation of the ETIP SNET Vision 2050;
  • 4 main panel sessions corresponding to ETIP SNET Working Groups’ scopes, dedicated to the presentation of the outcomes and findings of mature national and regional RD&I projects, highlighting their successes and challenges;
  • Roundtables stimulating cross-project discussion, exchange of experience and best practices and identification of existing barriers.

The workshops’ outcomes will feed ETIP SNET activities and will be used to develop ETIP SNET’s next Implementation Plan, thus ensuring consistency and complementarity between national and European RD&I priorities, and fostering the deployment of ambitious national and regional RD&I projects addressing energy system integration issues.
