Following a recent call for application, we are pleased to announce the election of Pedro Rodriguez as the new Chair and Bryan Murray as the new Co-Chair for ETIP SNET Working Group 2 – Storage technologies and system flexibilities.
Pedro Rodriguez, currently Head of the Energy Systems Research Unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, has spent several years intensively working on the integration of energy storage in electricity grids to enhance their performance and security. During his time in the industry, he has led major projects on battery energy systems and has been actively involved in numerous committees and working groups aimed at promoting smart and efficient energy systems. Since December 2023, Mr. Rodriguez has served as Co-Chair of ETIP SNET WG2, actively contributing to its activities. In September 2024, he stepped into the role of Chair, taking on greater responsibility in leading the Working Group.
As Chair, Mr. Rodriguez represents the Working Group within ETIP SNET’s governance structure, acts as its representative at external events, and coordinates its activities, supported by the WG Co-Chair and the ETIP SNET Secretariat.
Bryan Murray, Manager of Long Duration Energy Storage project at EirGrid, brings over 13 years' experience across the energy sector, spanning roles in regulatory bodies, academia, energy trading, and a Transmission System Operator. His cross-functional background enables him to navigate complex discussions and chair working groups with diverse viewpoints. Mr. Murray has a particular interest in market design and energy economics and is passionate about connecting storage solutions to the European grid, seeing storage as an essential tool for decarbonisation. He is eager to apply his skills, knowledge, and commitment to support ETIP SNET's goals and drive meaningful progress within WG2.
The new Chair and Co-Chair will pursue WG2’s mission, which focuses on advancing energy storage technologies to enhance flexibility in electricity transmission and distribution. This includes evaluating storage options, their integration with power networks, and their overall impact on flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
